A Call for Vigilance

Look before you jump. Think before you speak. Pause before you act. 

These are the ways of vigilance, but they’re not the only ones.

Vigilance is essential for caring–committing precious attention to something that matters. Being watchful. Minding cautionary cues. Preserving by observing.

Vigilance, however, should not be taken for paranoia, that chronic state of crippling suspicion.

Instead, vigilance is the absence of ignorance. Aside from fairy tales, ignorance doesn’t breed bliss–it ambushes it. Left unchecked, oblivion will lead to disaster.
